Introduction:
What does a technician in instrumentation and control do? In commercial and industrial contexts, instrumentation and control technicians maintain, identify, calibrate, and repair measurement and control systems.
Technicians in instrumentation and control have extensive knowledge of the relationships between processes in a facility as well as its overall systems. Systems for communication, process control, energy supply (hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical) are among the many systems they install, manage, and service.
Additionally, they set up and maintain measuring and signaling tools monitor process control variables, equipment performance, and material properties throughout a process.
The participants in this training will learn measurement and calculating techniques as well as data analysis and numerical estimate skills that they will apply to their work. Calculating flow, measuring analyser malfunctions, keeping track of pressure, evaluating variances on graphs, and comparing results and measurements are a few of these would be part of the activities.
Course Objectives
Â
Upon completing this Certified Instrumentation and Process Control Technician Course successfully, participants will have an understanding of:
- Types of documents referenced comprise computer printouts with numeric information, supplier catalogue listings and engineering documentation such as forms, graphs, tables, charts, schematics, assembly diagrams and drawings. They may also make documents such as on-site sketches and completely detailed schematics, assembly drawings, graphs and charts
- Parts lists, maintenance schedules, and inspection reports. Instrumentation and control technicians create and write procedures for the control and operation of equipment and to troubleshoot faults. They use writing abilities when communicating through e-mail and providing status updates in logbooks
- Measurement and calculation, data evaluation and numerical estimation skills to their tasks. Some of these tasks include calculating volume displacement, monitoring pressure, measuring analyser malfunctions, calculating flow, interpreting deviations on graphs, and comparing values and measurements. Instrumentation and control technicians evaluate, and analyse collection of data gathered from tests and simulations to troubleshoot faults, evaluate equipment functioning and assess the progress of wear
- Troubleshoot breakdowns and malfunctions, take corrective measures to avoid potential hazards and choose whether to repair or replace components based on time and cost factors. They plan and establish maintenance schedules, the installation of new machinery and the tradespeople assigned to install the machinery. Instrumentation and control technicians should be capable to think swiftly and synthesize the information at hand to deal with emergencies such as serious equipment malfunctions that could cause injury, or property and environmental damage
- Installing control valves and testing transmitters or controllers
- Install and service programmable process control systems like PLCs, DCSs, SCADA systems and HMIs
- Configure settings and to access information such as measurement and operational values
- Word processing software, communication software and devices, the Internet, databases, spreadsheets, computer-assisted design (CAD), manufacturing or machining software depending on the task
- Safety, digital technology and more high-level computer applications relating to process control
